Well, it's Friday! Time for the Friday dance.  I guess that happens after work and the weekend begins!  Hope everyone has a good weekend.  I'm so excited to be visiting my sister and her man.  I've got to say, I think I need a couple days off of designing and sewing.  I'm starting to get a little stressed out!! But thank God for my awesome friend (you know who you are;) who helps keep me calm and reminds me I can do this!!!

Happy Hump Day!  I can't believe it's already Wednesday.  Today I finally got to pick up my parcel...corset supplies!   I took a corseting class (again bc I loved it so much the first time) last fall and just loved it.  I've decided to make a corset for the Red Dress fashion show this year and am uber excited to see the finished product!!   Corsets today are not like they were in the past...well not all of them.  Today they can be found in gorgeous gowns and even as outer wear rather than under wear.  To build one from scratch just for you and put all that work into it is.priceless!

So, I get the In Style "Look of the Day" every day and look what it is!! It's Jennifer Lopez wearing the Micheal Kors dress I posted the other day! She certainly pulls it off and I give her props for pairing it with those bright pink shoes.  Success!

The neutrals look so nice and a touch of red makes it just right! Image via polyvore.com
This dress one of my favorites she's worn.  Love the red shoes!  Picture Via InStyle.com
Now for item number two on my list.  Last night my friend came over for tea and to keep me sane.  She was telling me about graduation and how she needed a pretty dress to wear.  Obviously I said we will  do something fun for her!!! Her man told her he would love to see her in some color...Yellow!! Now, I can't say I've ever seen her wear yellow and I know her favorite color is purple....so she was a little surprised at the color choice.   This prompted me to look around for some cute little yellow dresses.  Yellow  is a fun color  for summer (which is when her graduation is).  The only trick is making sure you have the right shade of yellow.   I know personally, I prefer buttery yellows.  I can't wear anything too bright because I'm so fair complected.    The next question is usually what color should be worn with it.  Well that too depends on the person.  Take J.Lo for instance...she pulls off the bright combinations great but that's not for everyone.  You can always stick to neutrals.   I  personally think a nice touch of blue or orange would be cute.  Even  black and yellow can work in the right combination (don't want to look like a bee!).  It's all about how creative you want to be, and that can be so much FUN!

The weekend seems to have flown by! Luckily I did sneak some work in there.  This morning while drinking my coffee and looking through my new In Style magazine, an add caught my eye.  It was so vibrant and fun.  Micheal Kors purses!  This designer has truly been catching my eye lately.  Just the other night J.Lo was sporting a neon pink dress by the designer and she looked stunning!  In the past, upon seeing one of his designs I would  think  " I love that dress, who did it" . Now I usually know his designs when I see them.   I love his somewhat simple and sophisticated designs.  He just knows how to make a woman look great!   Here are a few pics of some of his vibrant pieces.

Today I went to my cousins Bridal Shower.  It seems like just yesterday I was having mine!    I made her wedding earrings as her gift...custom of course, just for her (WOE).  She's getting married in Jamaica and wanted something beachy.  She mentioned star fish and lucky for her I was able to incorporate some cute ones in her earrings! I can't wait to see her all pretty in her dress and jewelry.  Even though I won't be going to Jamaica ,at least I know I helped her with her day:)

ps great for the under the sea trend this spring/summer!

Wow another wonderfully warm day! It's hard to believe it's March. It's been so warm at work....and that's hard when there is a kiln on.... because I started to make glass beads! I (and two co-workers) took a course a few years ago under Kristina Logan.  I didn't really get into it right away but two days ago I gave it a try and think I'm doing a little better then I expected.  So far, I'm enjoying it. Maybe a little more confidence.   I noticed the beads I made all kinda  match this cute little notebook I was given by my friend Elizabeth.  I've been using it for my garment diary and writing about my progress with the fashion shows.  I guess I like the colors!  I wonder what colors I will use next?! So many color options with the glass, stay tuned:)

Today was another beautiful spring day, hitting just below the 25 degrees mark! I actually stepped outside at break and soaked up a little Vitamin D.  With all this great weather, I got to thinking....what new trends should/Do I want to try?  In style helped me out with some ideas.   Spring is a great time to revamp your wardrobe.  Renew! What new trends will you try this season?!

What a great first day of Spring! The weather here was amazing.  I can't believe it was almost 25 degrees...crazy! This time of year always excites me because it means it's time to bring out the spring/summer clothes and say goodbye to the winter blahs of not enough sunlight and cold weather (Although with these strange weather patterns I wouldn't be surprised if we get hit with a snow storm!).  Bring on the sun dresses, sandals and fun colorful accessories!

Hope everyone had a good weekend! While browsing the web I found these cute little oven mitts on a site I really like; www.modcloth.com.  It's a great site if you like retro.  See, don't they look nicer with bows on them:)   Makes me want to cook something just so I can put them on...not sure if my husband would want to though! I also found some other cute little bow things...obviously I love bows! I think they're kinda fun.

Happy St. Patrick's day!!  This is kind of sad, but I don't think I have anything green to wear...and I love color and have so much in my wardrobe.  Guess I'll have to figure something out :)

Here is a link about the history of St. Patrick's day.  I didn't know all the story and I'm sure lots of people who wear green on this day don't either.  Cheers!

It's Friday!!! Hope that everyone had a good week :)  My weekend plans consist of working on my designs for the NBCCD fashion show and the Red Dress fashion show, both at the end of April.  I'm so excited to see my designs come to life!

Thursday 15 March 2012

Her prints definitely remind me of "The Little Mermaid"...all the colors!
So, here is a continuation of the Under the Sea theme.  This designer has recently caught my eye.  Her name is Mary Katrantzou , from Greece.  She original began by studying architecture with a focus on interior design. Eventually she changed her focus from interior prints to fashion prints.  I think its neat that someone can start with one focus, thinking that's what they want to do ,then take a chance on something else...maybe discover a new  passion.  We often have more potential then we know!

Hope everyone had a happy hump day! Today I finished a sample earring for my cousins nuptials in Jamaica.  She wanted something pretty with a beachy feel. Since her bridesmaids are wearing starfish jewelry, I decided to incorporate some into her special piece. I was excited to design this for her because it represents another theme this spring: Under the Sea! Soft colors, shells, pearls, tiny sea creatures.... There are so many designers having fun with this theme.  One show I enjoyed watching was Chanel. First, two things I love:  Chanel and Florence and the Machine.  It was like they were walking on the ocean floor.  Soft colors, shells and pearls everywhere....including their hair.  With Florence singing "What the Water Gave Me" in a giant sea shell, it was perfect!   Okay, now I've got "under the sea" stuck in my head from The Little Mermaid, my favorite Disney cartoon....sorry if I got it stuck in your head too:)
