Premieres

Hey! Hope everyone had a great weekend.  Imagine that, I'm writing on a Sunday.  My weekend was pretty laid back.   Hung out with my parents on Friday and watched the x-factor.  It was kind of fun!!  Yesterday was rainy so hubby and I watched movies.  We bought the Avengers.  I love comic book movies.  I was talking to my husband yesterday about how I must be strange because I don't like chic flicks...I love action movies!  We have a few movie passes and were trying to figure out what movies to see..my suggestion: Taken 2.   Comes out on Oct. 5.  I love Liam Neeson!
Tonight is season premiere night for a couple shows.  Once Upon a Time and Dexter!  I enjoy the costumes on "Once Upon A Time" and the fairy tale component.  My mom used to call me Princess when I was younger (ok maybe she still does) because I loved the Disney Princesses and Fairy tales in general.   As for Dexter...just a great show!  A different kind of story line.  You can't really decide if he's good or bad...maybe both?  I enjoy it.    All I know is we have been waiting a year to see what happens!  I hate cliff hangers...but like them at the same time....oh so twisted...just like the show!  What are your favourite shows?

Ooo I love the costumes!   It's always fun to see what character they will introduce and how they will be part of the story.  It sort of makes me feel like a kid again.  One of the reasons I loved the princesses is because of their beautiful gowns...and I of course, as most girls, wanted to be a princess someday!

What will Deb do??  She's a great character.  There's nothing she wont say or do but when it comes to her brother, will she be able to say or do anything??? Guess we will find out!

Emmy's

Hey hey!
It seems I've been writing mostly on Mondays.  I did intend on writing this weekend but I was a bit busy I guess! We had the Grand Opening on Saturday. So, I was there half the day and up to that day I was sewing away.  (I did not mean to Rhyme! )My dress turned out wonderful! I was quite happy with it.  A heavy stretch satin with lace, both black, and a ruffle along the bottom!   The Grand opening was great as well.  So many people!  Thanks to everyone who came out and celebrated:)

Last night was the Emmy's....and my favorite part of course is the Red Carpet!  There were so many pretty dresses but a few stood out to me more than the others...that is, I LOVED them.  By now, you all know my most favourite garment to create is dresses....so these kind of events usually get the creative juices flowing and often lead to lots fun things:)

Padma Lakshmi in Monique Lhuillier
I watched her step out of the vehicle and thought, wow she is gorgeous!  The orange works so well with her skin tone.  I love the flare of the skirt and the fitted bodice....delicious!

Zooey Deschanel in Reem Acra
I love this girl.  She looked fantastic.  Her show "New Girl", is hilarious! I recommend this show to anyone who wants to laugh and smile.  Someone told me that she's just as sweet and kind in person:)

Julie Bowen in Monique Lhuillier
Okay, I"m not the biggest fan of yellow, mostly because it doesn't always look great on me. However, she pulls it off so well! There were actually about 4 yellow dresses there...three of them won Emmy's. Hmmm....Julie Bowen being one of them.  "Modern Family", absolutely love it!   So Monique, two of your dresses caught my eye :)  She makes amazing dresses.
Lucy Liu in Versace
I'm a huge fan of corseted dresses and lately Versace has been catching my eye.  Love the detail on the bodice and all that sparkle!
Jessica Pare in Jason Wu
I've always loved black and white or in this case, white with black.  She looks so glamorous from head to toe.  Very appropriate for this Mad Men actor!  The red lips make her look even more like a starlet...and she's Canadian:)

Julia Louis Dreyfus in Vera Wang
I could not take my eyes of this dress when she went up for her award.  It's a lovely burgundy.  Oh it was gorgeous!  The funny thing is, I actually sketched something similar to this.  Vera Wang has always been one of my inspirations.
Tina Fey in Vivienne Westwood

Dear Miss Tina Fey, Absolutely love this dress.  The colour, the detail at the top of the bodice...the fit ...perfect!  She rocked it!  That was meant to be punny...she's on "30 Rock" lol another hilarious show.

Shoes

Happy Monday!!!  Hope everyone had a great weekend.   I had fun.  My hubby and I checked out the Harvest Jazz and Blues festival.  We went to see Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi. They were great!  I just love the vibe around the city during those few days...all the people and the music.  The city is alive!  Although, it's really hard to find parking downtown lol.
I usually have a case of the Mondays....and drop things a lot....but I didn't do that bad.  Also...I got some new shoes today, yay!   They are Valentino inspired shoes from Shoe Dazzle and are fantabulous.  I actually said "These are hot B....." to my husband when I opened them lol.  Of course he doesn't understand.  I also got a pair on Thursday which are a little Chanelesque. Okay so maybe I'm on a mini shoe shopping spree. In my defence, I need them for dress up times;)  This weekend WOE is having it's grand opening.  So, of course I had to make a dress which I'm working on (and obviously need some nice new shoes).  The hardest part is just deciding what I want to make and that's how I end up procrastinating and stressing!  Anyhow, I hope it doesn't come to that.  I'm so excited to wear a pair of my new shoes!  Have a fantastic week :)

The first pair I got last week!. I'm not a heel person  (but I do love them) so I really have to practise!  I thought they were a little like the Chanel cap toe...although those are more often rounded in the toe.  Oh to have a pair of real Chanels!

Shoes I got today!  Although I would love to be able to  afford a real pair of Valentino shoes...these will do just perfect!   I was even wearing them as I worked on my latest project....gotta break them in!

My latest project.  I just could not walk by this lace without snagging it.

Valentino. They came in a variety of colors and styles.  I love the studs! Mine are definitely not a kitten heel...they would have been much easier to walk in!

Burgundy

Hey all! Did you all have a great weekend??  This past week, although short, seemed long.  So, the weekend was just what I needed.  Ahhhhh yes.  I kept quite busy which is nice.  I always feel kind of bad if I'm lazy all weekend....even though sometimes that's what weekends are great for.   Anyways, today I bought some cobalt jeans from Joe Fresh! They are nice and comfy.  I can't wait to wear them!   I was also going to purchase a pair of burgundy ones but they didn't have my size :(  But hey, I'm sure I could find some somewhere else. I'm going through an I want to try a new colour phase....and Burgundy being the new "in" colour, makes me want to try it.  I even made some nice little burgundy glass beads at work.  Can't wait to make something with them!
Hope you all have a great week!

Roksanda Ilicnic

Roksanda Ilicnic
I would have never thought to put these colours together but they actually work!

Rodarte
This dress is so sweet.  I love the collar necklace and the asymmetrical detail on the dress.

J.Mendel
The look of this dress is so romantic..the colour...the deep "V" and the flow of the fabric.

Jason Wu
A bit of the military look that's in. The belt is a great accent on the oufit.  I'd say it makes the outfit.  The fur looks awesome but I hope it's fake! I could definitely wear this this fall.  Oh if only I could afford it!

Gucci
Lovin' the high slit ruffles and assymetry.  It's not showing that much skin but there is a sexiness about it.

Gucci
I have to say, I'm really diggin' the sheers this year.  The appliqué detail is lovely and covers just where it needs too ;)
DVF
I  love DVF.  Her lines are so lady like and don't over do it or under do it, if that makes sense.  I would wear this for sure!  The one bare shoulder is so sexy but not over the top...just enough:)

Chanel
I've always been a fan of Chanel.  This is a great play on the classic Chanel jacket....winterized!  The colours are delicious and I would totally wear it.

Interesting little piece of info via www.wikipedia.org : Burgundy is a red color associated with the Burgundy wine of the same name, which in turn is named after the Burgundy region of France. The color burgundy is similar to other shades of darkred such as maroon. When referring to the color, "burgundy" is usually not capitalized.[2]
The first recorded use of "burgundy" as a color name in English was in 1881.The burgundy color was the most popular lipstick color amongst women in the 1990s and early 2000s. It is also a popular lipstick color with the people in the gothic subculture.

Labor Day

Hey! Hope you all had a fabulous long weekend.  Although I Love long weekends, they always seem to go by so fast.  But hey, at least the week will be shorter too!  My friend came to visit from Toronto and brought me some uber fun fashion mags!  So, today I've been sifting through them and reading fun little articles as well as checking out the latest trends.  Thanks E.jo:)  I've also been working out ideas for my designs...something I've been trying to do for a little while now.  One step at a time!
Today is labor day.  I've never actually looked into the history of it and decided to.  I mostly wanted to know the whole don't wear white after labor day tradition.   Here is what I found from wikipedia, I love that site:  Labor day
Chanel
Photo via www.Vogue.com
One of the main things it said about not wearing white is that labor day weekend is considered the last weekend of summer (Even thought it's not technically over) and white is considered to be a summer colour.  For this season however, White has been all over the runways...so winter white is in. Which actually makes sense to me because it reminds me of Winter.....snow.  But this doesn't  mean to keep your sheer white shirts from summer.  Heavier clothing will probably be more appropriate for colder weather:)  But do feel free to layer your summer clothes for a more wintery look.   Will you try the winter white trend this season or leave it for summer?

Speaking of colour, here is the colour forecast from Pantone.  If you go to the link and click on the colour it will bring up a runway example from a designer:)  Pantone Fall 2012 colours
One colour that is not mentioned here and has been all over the runways, is Burgundy...or Oxblood...there are a few different names but they are all quite similar.
