Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!!! This year we got 4x the trick or treaters .  That's right, 8! When I was little, there were tons of kids out.  Then again, there are some neighbourhoods that get up to 200 kids from what I hear!  Maybe that's where they all go!? The mall was packed with trick or treaters.  There were some super cute ones!   A couple stood out for me; a little penguin who must have been about 2 or 3 years old.  She hid behind her mother because she was scared of the person dressed up as a Dragon (also a great costume) giving out candy.  Another one was dressed as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.  So adorable.  I guess the mall is the new thing to do.  I say hey, if one can get some shopping in, why not!
I decided to make a costume and dress up today.  It's always been one of my favourite things to do and for the past two years I haven't made anything.   It was time for a revival.  As a little girl I loved Disney Princesses, so, I went as Snow White (My own version:).   I didn't  have anywhere in particular to go so, it was just for fun and fun it was.   I even saw a few Snow Whites at the mall  Hmmm.. maybe I should have kept it on and tried to get some candy???  JK.  Thinking back at childhood Halloween costumes, I was only a Disney Princess once....Ariel.  I loved that costume.  My Mom was always creative with costumes.  Maybe that's where I get it from.  Right now I'm watching "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown".  It makes me feel like a kid again:)

Moi, at work...doing my Snow White thing.  I even had an apple at break!  It's tricky to work in a dress like that.  I give her props for getting anything done.  Then again, she had the Dwarfs to help her out.

Check out all those fun names!!  I'm so excited for these.  I've been a fan of James Bond since I was a little girl and the Bond girls have always had an influence on my designs.  In fact, I read that Tom Ford himself took care of the wardrobe for the movie!

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and does something that makes them smile:)

Studs and Movies

Tuesday!!!  How was your day? It's been raining here...a lot.  I did however see the sun this evening.  Only for a little while because it was getting dark.  I was on my way to the gym.  It was out long enough to shine on a pretty rainbow.    I've always wondered where the whole pot of gold at the end of a rainbow story came from.  Oh, I'm probably going to look it up now!  Anyways, how was everyone's weekend?  Mine was pretty good.  We went to see the Movie Argo and I bought some fancy new boots covering a couple styles this season:)

This movie was beyond my expectations.  Ben Affleck is so talented.  I thank you so much for this great movie.  It's been a while since I've seen one and I left saying "wow, that was really good!"   I'm usually all about the action flicks at the theatre and although this one wasn't full of action it had suspense and even a little humour.   I've also got a soft spot for history and movies that are based on true stories.   So, if you are trying to figure out what movie to see, check this one out.   Brilliant!

Jennifer Aniston is wearing some Arturo Chiang boots in this photo.  I think it's from an In Style magazine.  Anyways, this is the brand of boot I purchased on the weekend.  He used to be a designer for Nine West.

These are the boots I got. I absolutely love them.  They have studded and snap detail in the back.  So, they are a riding boot with some studs...two trends in one!

So, let's talk a little about studs.  I've actually had my eye on them for about a year now.  To be more specific , the pyramid stud.   I actually mentioned them last year as a design option.  Imagine if they had  come out before the trend hit full force!?!  I really have to learn to speak up a little more.  Anyways, this is Valentino.  As I previously showed, I purchased some shoes from Shoe Dazzle that were influenced by this trend.  They also have a couple purses with this style. So, you can get the look minus the uber huge price tag!

Another take on the studs.  I think it's so cute.  It would also be easy for an at home project!  Just get some fabric, something heavy enough but not too heavy.  Maybe a cotton or even a velvet if you wanna get a little fancy!  I'd say a store like Michaels or maybe even where the fabric was purchased, might carry some studs that could be glued on or with some gadget.  Hmmm maybe I will try this!  We'll see.

A little more Valentino.  Can't got wrong.  The pyramid stud detail is just enough not to take away from the femininity of the purse.

Studs in clothing! How cute is this dress?  It's got a sweet little retro look with a modern twist to it.  The studs are so tiny they don't overwhelm the dress.
Here is a link I found on how to wear studs and still look like a lady!!  Hope you all have a fabulous week!!

Skyfall

Hey All!  Hope your Tuesday was fantastic.  As you may or may not know, I'm a huge Bond fan.  "Skyfall", the newest film is coming out next month.   I've had the new theme song in my head all day! It's by Adele, who is amazing.  I'm so excited!!

New Bond movie means new Bond girls which means new fashions....Ooooo!

The new song, "Skyfall", is reminiscent  of older Bond films.  I love it.

I have no problem watching Daniel Craig as James Bond.  I don't care what any one says, he is an awesome Bond.  My other favourite, Sean Connery!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!  Today my husband and I have two dinners.  You would think we would be used to it by now (because we do it every year) but honestly we still feel the same after...full and regretful of all the food we just ate!  I have actually been asking myself the classic question of what should I wear? I'm thinking something stretchy to accompany my expanding belly as I eat too much.  I guess neither one of us wants to say "yes let's do your family's dinner this year", so we just do both.  My goal is to pace myself and leave room for my Grammy's Mandarin Salad.  Hopefully someday we can just have our own dinner and let other people make the decision of whose family dinner they will attend!  Hope you all have a great Thanks Giving and don't forget to wear your stretchy pants. Gobble, Gobble!

"Friends" was one of my favourite TV shows and I always remember the episode were Rachel made a trifle for Thanksgiving.   It reminds me of something I would do!

Grace

Bonjour!  Look at that...didn't write on Monday and it hasn't been a week!  Now let's see if I can have less then a week between now and my next blog.
Something else I did this past weekend was watch a doc on Grace Kelly.  She was such a classy lady and beautiful person.  She's always been a style icon for me.   One of my favourite silver screen starlets for sure.   I learned things I didn't know about her like how her father was three time gold medalist and that she came from a wealthy family that had to pay a dowry of two million US dollars to Prince Rainier when they were married!  Imagine that, becoming a real princess....ahhh every little girls dream.   Anyhow, I found her story to be quite interesting , not just the Princess part.  She wanted to make it on her own without any help even though her Uncle worked in theatre and could have given her a chance any time.  She also used her status to do good like the Princess Grace Foundation that helped local artisans and supporting the La Leche League, which promotes breastfeeding, among other things.   I'm thinking she will be my muse for the Red Dress.  It was after all, a stroke that caused her tragic accident.  I hope I can make something that would have looked amazing on her.  Imagine having had the chance to dress her or any starlet of that era! It would have been truly amazing.

I love this picture .  That colour looks amazing on her.   I would like to use a similar colour for one of my new designs.  Maybe inspired by her style:)

She even looks fabulous in Pink!

Her wedding dress was gorgeous! She looks like such a princess.  I remember when I was a little girl I dreamt of having a huge wedding gown with a veil and train as long as Princess Diana's....oh how things change.

As soon as I saw Kate Middleton's dress the first thing I thought of was how much it reminded me of Grace Kelly's dress.  Gorgeous!  I completely fell in love with it.  Truly befitting a princess.

Another Hollywood leading lady,  Anne Hathaway (below) just got married and I thought her head piece to be reminiscent of Grace Kelly's.  Anne's dress was designed by Valentino which did not surprise me at all!! The designer has dressed her on a few occasions (Oscars!).
