Keeping it Fresh

Bonjour!  I can't believe it's already the middle of the week.  The past few weeks seem to be flying by! Maybe it's because it's been getting darker earlier...and earlier...which means it will be Fall soon.   On my last post I mentioned Blue Skinny Jeans.  What I forgot to mention was I recommended Joe Fresh.  They have a variety of colours for a great price, $19.  My sister has been contemplating buying some coloured denim for a while but still hasn't bought any!   Joe Fresh is a great line and I absolutely love shopping there.  It's fashionable and affordable.  They are always on trend! So, next time you go to do groceries (If it's in a Super Store that carries Joe Fresh) remember to take a few minutes to do a little shopping for yourself too:)  And don't worry, it won't break the bank (unless you get carried away!).  So feel free to indulge just a little...you deserve it.

In love with this jacket!!!

Here are a few items from the Joe Fresh website that caught my eye.

This lovely green dress is perfect for work or a nice evening out.  I have a thing for pockets and these ones are great!   Green, from hunter to emerald, is another color making a scene this season.

These are the skinny jeans I was talking about.   Only $19! So, if you're not sure about the skinny or the color part, it's not a huge amount to spend if you are up to trying something new and fun.  I used to be scared of skinny jeans but now I love them!

Fun, colourful belts....need I say more??

What a cute little purse!!! They also come in a few colours all suitable for  Fall/Winter.

They even have shoes!! Color blocking is still in.

The loafer heel.  I've been seeing these styles everywhere.  It's the whole menswear for women look.  I think I like them!

Fall Fashions begin

Hey All! Hope you had a fantabulous weekend.  I didn't have as huge a case of the Mondays today...but ya know...it's Monday.  I was actually pretty busy and on the go this weekend.  It's nice to be busy sometimes.  Hubby had a golf lesson so I had a little time to myself to hit the mall.  Yes I may have purchased a few things.  I'm slowly starting to build up my Fall wardrobe.  My sister asked me this weekend what she should consider when she goes on her shopping trip ; what the trends are.  My first instinct was to inform her about colours:  Burgundy, huge color this season.  Also, indigo to slate blue.  While looking through magazines soooo many ads have these colors.  Luckily, blues have been in for a few seasons so a lot of people may already have them in their wardrobe.  It's great when that happens!  Greens seem to be popping up everywhere too and purples are making an appearance. The palate is all over the place! But I'd say those are the more dominant colours....among a few others!  I told her leather is in...not head to toe necessarily but here and there....peplums, yay....equestrian...holy cow so many that I will expand on at a later date.
So, to start her off, I gave her an example of what I would like to add to my wardrobe: A blazer. They are so crisp and can really top off an outfit.  Day time, wear it with a blouse and dress pants .  Night time, kick it up with some fun heels, skinny jeans and sheer top.   Next, I said I would like some cobalt colored skinny jeans.  I'm all about my colored denim this year.  Pair it with a cute polka dot shirt (t-shirt or blouse).  Then to top it off, some cute little earrings.  Keep it fairly simple.  How ladylike; polka dots and bows, two of my favourite things.  In my little example here I paired this all with some fun little wedge booties and a what' supposed to be burgundy bag.  I'm a huge fan of pops of colour and this bag does just that.  Maybe the brits have had a little influence on me with the Olympics!  Either way, it's a good influence.   I hope I helped my sister out with her shopping.  She was quite pleased with my advice.  I love to help out any way I can. What fall trend would you like to start out with??

Tuesday

Hello! I skipped Monday writing...I had a case of the Mondays....lol. I hope everyone had a super duper weekend.   I had a pretty laid back one...watched three movies!  One of which was "The Hunger Games". Yay!  I have been waiting a while for it to come out.    I think they did a pretty good job adapting it.  Some parts were like they plucked it out of my mind....just as I imagined it!  I especially enjoyed the outfits. You all know I have a special place in my heart for peplum and Effie Trinket had some pretty fun peplum outfits. One of my favourites though, was Katniss' red flame dress....absolutely love dresses/gowns.  Perhaps a little inspiration for a possible Red Dress???  Hmmmm ;)

I found this picture and thought wow this was kind of how I felt yesterday.  I think I may have actually looked like this as I drove lol....I'm not sure why, Monday just hit me hard!

Had supper with my mom a.k.a "Mumsy" and my sista friend, Patticakes.  Sis is  moving tomorrow so we went out to the Guarrison. I had a pear gorgonzola burger and strawberry chevre salad...Yum!

After I got home I had a look at my fabric, something I often do...and think....what to make?!!  I keep telling myself, I have all this fabric....why buy more?! I need to use up what I have but then there is a sale....or I go in for a zipper and come out with well...more.  So, my goal is to try and use up as much of my fabric as possible!  I'm setting a goal for myself....turn this fabric into fabulous garments! Mission, Impossible???  Do do do do do...do ..do....I think not!   What goals are you setting for yourselves?!

Monday, Monday.

Monday, Monday.....How was everyones weekend?!  I got a fair amount accomplished.  I actually finished my dress I was working on just in time to wear to the wedding we were going to.  Yay! I was so excited.  It always gets my creative wheels turning when I get my sew on.  I've been daydreaming of my designs for the shows next year.  An email has already been sent around about the Heart Truth Fashion show!  I can't wait to get my model so I can start designing the red dress.

I was sew busy this weekend! One of my favourite things to do is get up early (well, earlyish),
have my breakfast ,get a delicious cup of coffee and start my work.

My dress!  It's a little tight on my mannequin.  Her name is Betty by the way.  Isn't she a fabulous model?!  It fit me like a glove and was so comfortable.   It's hanging in my closet now just waiting to be worn again.  I never thought I'd actually do that...make my own clothes and have them hanging in my closet.  It's a big accomplishment for me and I just love it.

A close up of the ruffle detail.  I love ruffles! Not in excess though....just a little touch.

Stella McCartney Fall 2012.  I love her Fall line.

Drop waist dresses were on the runways for fall.  With a little more fit
                                                                            and flare.

The Cobalt blue used in her fall line is delicious.   It's been in a few other lines.  Consider it a colour for the season.

Marchesa!!! One of my favourites.  Truly talented.  And then from the runway to the red carpet. Worn by Lily Collins. Gold is another trend to watch for this Fall.

Just thought I'd throw these ladies in.  It's been rainy on and off the past week so I got to wear  them.  My awesome friend, E.jo gave me these.  I absolutely love them!!  It makes rainy days just a little more fun;)

Gatsby

Holy Cow, it's Wednesday already??  Monday Holidays are fantastic...although it felt like Monday because I was dropping stuff lol.    I'm currently working on a dress that I hope to wear this weekend....ugh...I'm going a bit slow so we'll see.  But, it reminded me of a trend that's starting: The 20's and The Great Gatsby!  I have been obsessed with the drop waist look for a little while now so it's nice to see it trending!    I even  mentioned last week at work,  I felt we should keep this movie in mind for new designs.  I guess I am on the right track!  Anyways, the look is the roaring 20's: drop waist dresses, pearls galore, fancy headbands bejewelled with anything from feathers to diamonds , long gloves, music and drinking....and I'm sure some more!  I absolutely love vintage looks.  I can have so much fun with this!

It was supposed to come out near Christmas but has been moved to Summer of 2013
Based on the book from F.Scott Fitzgerald, it's the sixth adaptation (film and TV).  It takes place in the 1920's (The Roaring 20's) During the prohibition.  This is also the era of Art Deco which started in Paris during during the 20's.  It reached elsewhere into the 30's and war time.    With a focus on motifs and ornaments (although there are many styles, these are most common), it's influence was seen everywhere  from architecture  and art to clothing and jewelry...very eclectic!

Ooooo....look at tall that sparkle!  How glamorous does she look?  And those gentlemen look dapper...Leo is always great on screen.  Can't wait to see this!

Really like the patter/motif throughout the fabric and the sheer detail at the neckline.  It looks like her dress is just somehow staying up.  So beautiful!

Olympic Spirit

Hey hey! Hope everyone had a great weekend.  Today in NB it's NB day, so Happy NB day!  I'm not sure about everyone else but I am so into the Olympics this year.  It's constantly on in our house...I just leave it on the station and watch whatever is on.  I have to say, there are a few sports I've never even heard of!  Today our ladies went up against the USA in soccer.  I just want to say Bravo! They did so well!!! They may not have won but they were winners to me!  They definitely gave 110%.  It's that part of the Olympics that I love; the spirit.  They put their hearts into that game and that to me is like gold.  How cheesy am I!?!  One of my favourite things I saw this weekend was when Oscar Pistorius, someone I truly admire, ran the 400m semi final.  He made history by being the first double amputee to compete in the Olympics.  His goal was to make the finals for the 400m race.  He did get to the semi's!  The first place qualifier from the semi finals (later Gold medalist in the 400m), Kirani James, went up to him after the race and asked if they could swap numbers (on their shirts).  He was so excited to race him.   That's one of the main reason I like to watch the olympics...for those small moments that represent so much...it's not just  about winning a medal. It's about going out there and trying your best no matter what while respecting and even admiring those there.

Team Canada.  I thought it was kinda neat that their coach is from NewCastle England.  He played for that football team and they also wear red and white!  Let's go team Canada!!!

Oscar Pistorius (South Africa) and Kirani James (Grenada) Exchanging their running numbers after the 400 semi-finals.   They even embraced.  Kirani went on to say "Oscar is special.  It's a memorable moment for me to be out there competing with him".  He also said "I just see him as another competitor.  Another athlete.  I really respect him. It is what it is."

He was born without fibulae in his lower legs.   His nickname is Blade Runner! In 2008 there was controversy over him racing saying his carbon fibre legs could give him an advantage...I guess they never thought of the disadvantages too.   Pistorius said he'd been racing on the same blades for years and his time improves all the time.  I watched him race and he is fast!!  I think he's a pretty awesome person myself:)

No more thinking, only doing and Lanvin

Happy Thursday! Yes, it's almost Friday and for us here in NB, it's a long weekend.  Yay! Today I accomplished something...that's right, I wore the shirt.  And I did so fabulously, if I may add.  I even got a compliment from my boss (She's pretty stylish herself!).   So, now I want to go shopping!  It is after all nearing the time for fall wardrobe...why not start a little early;).  Today I also read a quote that was perfect for me: "Every time I use my instinct I win.  Every time I think too much I lose"- Alber Elbaz.     I just loved it, it suited me.  Alber Elbaz is the designer for Lanvin, another wonderful fashion house.  I know when I do go with my instinct, it's often my best work.   I feel like I've been thinking too much lately and today I was back.  I also started on a new pattern for a dress that I was thinking too much about.  No more thinking, just doing...hmmm did Yoda say something like that?  At least close "No try, only do", right?     Maybe this quote by Alber Elbaz suits some of you!

Lanvin.  Fall 2012.  Love. it. Sucker for a good peplum! They are so ladylike.

These last three are another sample of the Lanvin fall line.  The colours are  lusciously delicious!   I will admit, I've been slowly falling for this line.   I'm attracted to the colours and the feminine touches like ruffles and peplums.  Alber Elbaz  knows what he's doing.

Hot Yoga and Sheer tops

Hump Day! The week seems to be flying.  I figured it would be slow considering I thought yesterday was Thursday....eek!  I've been trying this new thing, Hot Yoga at Dynamic fitness (www.dynamicfit.ca)  Oh boys, it's sweaty! But definitely worth the heat.  And I can finally make proper use of my Lulu Lemon clothes! Yesss!  I've always been a fast pace workout person but I actually enjoy the relaxation and it's still a good work out! I was very jelly like after lol.   I'd like to try and go once a week...so we'll see how I make out!  It's so healthy: Helps with cellulite, improves Immune system, detoxes the body...etc.  Plus, it's an excuse to buy more yoga wear a la lulu:)
So, I've been trying to decide what to do....sheer tops are everywhere...and although I love them, I'm a little nervous to try it.  I see a lot of people just wearing a bra underneath but I think that's too much for me!!! But will it have the same effect with a camisole underneath?  I do have one..it's so cute: White with black trim and billowy.  It's also what I like to call a "Mullet" shirt lol.  It's a little shorter in the front then in the back.  I've been picking them up at the store and then setting them back...ahh can't make up my mind.  I will admit however, I keep telling myself "you can make that".  I have a hard time justifying buying something I know I can make, maybe a little better.  I just might try it out...I have to step out of my comfort zone and just do it because I love the look!    Sometimes we just have to go for it.  Who cares what people think...unless it's illegal...maybe don't do that;)
(there are such things as crimes of fashion lol )

Absolutely love their gear.  So comfortable and might I add...make my butt look great!

They've got great sayings...lots of motivational stuff.  I purchased a pair of their running shorts...fabulous! So comfy and don't move all over the place.
